Great Motivation

I am on a hiatus lately. The kids aren’t feeling well and the scorching heat is getting worse by the day. Come to think of it I am still awake in this godly hour blogging and the heat is penetrating my dermis not contented with AC plus one e.fan on. Am I the only one complaining about the weather? Oh boy, so much for that.

When we surprised Dodo with a bike on his birthday a few months back, I could only recall on how many times he was eager to use it. It wasn’t really that much and during our weekend not-so-fitness activity in UP grounds, he refuses to use it because he claims it’s dangerous.

Last week my daughter surprised us of how she was able to use Dodo’s bike without us teaching her. I could recall that we let her ride Dodo’s bike once in our not-so-fitness chronicles in UP but it was just once and only for few kilometers with me assisting/pushing her. The rest was all her hard work trying to sneak on her brother’s bike when Dodo is busy playing with his toys. Then one day, she was very giddy to show me how she can move back and forth in our small living room using Dodo’s bike. I was literally awed by her patience in trying new things but at the same time give me creeps whenever I doubt her abilities. Though she cannot make a full cycle yet of the pedals, (because of her short legs) she is able to manipulate the bike with ease.

It was then the very first time I saw them fight which involves physical fits over a single bike. A’s eagerness to learn ended up in their usual playtime moments, that they have to fight over a single toy over and over again. It was an apparent chaos when I saw A crying for help and frustration because Dodo was taking away his bike from her. Then seconds later she was throwing small punches on her brother’s arms. I was shocked and at the same time stopped them right then and there. Both of them were crying and cuddled them for a moment. I didn’t allow them to use the toy not unless they would take turns. Later that night, they played together again like some things never happened.

It was then the high time for A to have her own suited for her size. So we went bike hunting over the weekend and eventually got her one and had them enjoy it at UP grounds. The eagerness in her was remarkable. When we reach home, there was again “mine” and “I want your toy” moments.

After a day, Dodo surprised me and told me how he can also bike with the full cycle. He was moving back and forth in our small living room. Both of them are enjoying their bikes and taking turns on the traffic in our humble abode. It turns out, that Dodo just needs a little motivation from her sister. Well, it was the great motivation he had since I spared myself from pushing him to learn.

Everyday I always unveil why the little girl came too soon. Not only to give our home added hue and joy but a great motivation to his brother. Exclude the fact that she is mostly the cause of mini chaos here at home due to her unlimited curiosity.

How about you? How do you motivate your children? Share your thoughts.
