The Search Is On for the Ten Outsatnding Young Mathematician

Image
Numbers and I don’t go really well. We had a bad relationship when I stepped in 5 th grade. Everything changed perhaps because I was under a math teacher who doesn’t deliver lessons very well and was in a tough competition before and can no longer keep up. But I have an engineer mother who kept pushing me to learn how to do mental calculation because she claims I will need it in the long run. She was right, but what happened? I never learned it. Ever! Don’t get me wrong though, I know basics and medicine calculations but when it comes to complex equations, when it already involves all the relationships of the alphabet, I just sip my coffee for that. I am not surprised if Philippines’ math literacy has a very low rank. I for one am included in those who have not-so-good relationship with numbers. We know very well that math is very important in our everyday lives. Julie Lim, VP of Collins International, Inc.  “With TOYM (Ten Outstanding Young Mathematicians) Awards, Sharp Calculato...

Dine for a Cause #DinnerForCarlisle

Carlisle Von Patrick was born as a healthy bouncing baby boy on the morning of March 31st, 2012. Being a single mom who carried him for the whole nine months by myself, I was so overwhelmed that he came out as healthy as I prayed for. Crying out loud, rosy cheeks, birthmark. Everything seems to be perfect. I make sure that he'll not be hurt, no insect will bite him. He was present on monthly check-ups, up-to-date with his vaccines. On his fourth month, my world froze when we rushed him to ER due to viral meningitis. I thought that would be the end of my unexplainable happiness in life, but thank God that my boy survived. Carlisle Von Patrick has been diagnosed with Craniopharyngioma (brain tumor) last February 2013 after his MRI procedure and went on brain surgery to remove the tumor last June 2013 at University of Santo Tomas Hospital. His life was saved, but his eyesight wasn't. He's undergoing constant follow up checks to maintain healthy living. Last update that we had ...

Colgate Optic White's Dream Wedding Launch

Image
If given the chance to renew again our wedding vows, I would opt to have an intimate wedding with close family and friends. I want it to be close to nature and this time somebody will document the special event in our life. Couples who are about to exchange vows want a top wedding photographer and videographer in their field to document their once in a lifetime event. Well, who doesn’t anyway? There are two names on top of the list for wedding coverage—Jason Magbanua and Pat Dy. Most brides-to-be have Jason and Pat on their wish list; the two with more than 10 years in the wedding industry has been called many things, including a genius and a magician. But as far as Jason is concerned, he’s simply a visual storyteller with an eye for capturing perfect wedding moments. Pat Dy, on the other hand started his editorial career by shooting for top fashion magazines in the country. His fashion approach for capturing real couples got the attention of the wedding industry and has since changed ...

Fifty percent mythology, fifty percent adventure, a hundred percent Filipino:  the adventures of Moymoy Lulumboy: Ang Batang Aswang will surely be loved by readers everywhere. The series follows the adventures of Moymoy who, though raised by humans, finds out that he is actually the child of a goddess and a “ tibaro ”, or magical being. Bullied as a child, Moymoy discovers his talent for shape-shifting in order to escape danger. His adventures begin when he returns to the world of Gabun, and discovers his role in the world of aswangs , duwendes and the like. Moymoy discovers that the markings on his chest form the image of half the map towards the land of Panalturan, a sacred land for the “tibaro.” The other half of the map is imprinted on the chest of Moymoy’s long-lost twin, Alangkaw. Alangkaw however was raised by Buhawan, a corrupted “tibaro” who aims to reunite the twins in order to use the map for his own greedy purposes. Segundo Matias, Jr. The series is written by Segund...
