For eight months now, I am happy to say that I have been
exclusively using cloth diapers to my youngest son. I have been sharing photos
on my IG as well as on my page my cloth diapering journey. But as you all know,
I went through all the jargons there is and researched for myself as well as
read a lot of it online. Oh, thank God there is a support system to it now a
days.
It is as complex when you didn’t make a lot of research
because innovation these days are just non-stop. Every now and then, a new
system is introduced tailored to the needs of every child. So what really are
the types of cloth diapers?
|
Some of the cloth diapers in my current stash. Star Wars nappy is from Cuddles and Giggles the only one in the photo that is locally made by one of the WAHMs here in Ph. |
- Flats. These are the old school bird’s eye gauze
type of cloth or what we call lampin back in the day. Right now there are a lot
of flats available and being offered by WAHMs. These are the bamboo cotton,
bamboo charcoal, cotton terry and etc. You will know the difference of each as
we go along in my series of posts.
- Cover type. This is a type of diaper, which is
only the PUL (Polyurethane Layer/outside layer) and doesn’t have the insert. It
is used with flats or inserts. It is best used for newborns and rainy days as
it dries really quickly. It also comes in a newborn size but mostly is OSFM
(one size fits most).
- Pocket Type. This is the most popular type of
cloth diaper online. A lot also of brands with different types of fabric as
inner. It is basically composed of outer PUL and inner cloth wherein you will
stuff an insert inside the pocket. Insert can be MF (microfiber) or bamboo
charcoal and others.

- AIO (All in one). This is a cloth diaper system
wherein the insert is sewed in the cover. Inserts usually come in
bamboo cotton because it is the one safe for baby’s bum. If you are the type of
person who doesn’t want to get confused with different inserts of cloth diapers
come stuffing time, this is best for you.

BumGenius (sewed in soakers) |
- Ai2 (All in two). Cover and inserts are
basically sold separate and soakers are usually snapped on the cover. Great
example for this is the Grovia.

- Fitted Diaper. This one is a system wherein the
shell is made up of two layers of cloth and inserts are snapped on the shell
too. Great for those that experience garter marks and this is great for presko
time as well.
- Hybrid Fitted. This system is similar to fitted
but the shell is composed of three layers of fabric. Outer layer, inner layer
(the one that pushes back liquid back to the inner layer of the nappy) and the
inner layer. The soakers are usually snapped on the shells too. This nappy
system is best for those babies that are allergic to the inner of pocket type
of diapers. However, the downside to it is the drying. In my experience, my
drying time usually takes two days or so because we do not have the open
laundry area for sun.

Cloth diapers also varies costs because of the source of raw
materials, the different types of materials used as well as the source of diapers. Some may be imported or locally made. So if you are quite
new to it, you might probably raise those brows because I know I was one of it
and heck I appreciate it more as I continue with this cloth diapering journey.
If you have questions or additional information, feel free
to comment down below. Again, I am not an expert on this. I just want to share
my understanding and experience as my way of paying forward to those that are
new to this advocacy.
Happy cloth diapering fellow momma!
