Things You Should Teach Your Child Before He Starts School

Sending your little one off to school for the first time is a big deal. Even if he has been in daycare before, kindergarten is a whole other story. While it is great to work with your child on different skills he will continue to develop in the classroom, here are some things you should instill in your little one before his first day of school.

The Importance of Kindness

This is something that will hopefully be taught every day in school, but talking to your child about the importance of kindness before they start kindergarten can help tremendously. This is a conversation that should start as early as possible so that your little one learns how to properly treat others whether you plan to send him to public school or a private christian elementary school Tampa. Remember that he does not come into this world knowing what to do. He is going to learn from what you teach him and show him each day.

A Love of Books

If your kid doesn't know how to read going into school, that is ok. The important thing is that you are reading to him and helping him to fall in love with stories. It is never too early to start reading to your child to help him become a lifelong learner.

How to Write His Name

It is a good idea to help your child know how to write his name before he starts school. The letters will likely not be perfect at this age, but he should have a basic understanding of how to form his name. Keep practicing this skill throughout the year so that his handwriting continues to improve.
While you definitely want to work with your child on these before school, you should also continue to do so throughout the year. Remember that he is still little and learning so much each day, so the more you can help him and be involved in his life, the more likely he is to thrive.
