Glorious Coffee That's Good For You

Image
My husband and I loves drinking coffee. In the morning, it is our bonding moment, to sip and eat bread and talk about our plans for the day. But recently, he was diagnosed to have Diabetes Type 2. So I abruptly cut his coffee from his system because he cannot take black coffee. He is really sad about it but I am trying to figure out how to incorporate coffee again in his system. For decades, coffee had received a bad reputation. Besides allegedly triggering high blood pressure, insomnia, and hyperacidity, the Filipino habit of adding lots of sugar and cream to one’s cup has been said to aggravate diabetes. While there’s no denying the Pinoy coffee fan his morning cup, there is concern over the amount of sugar present in commercial 3-in-1 coffee mixes. The leading brand has 14.6 grams of sugar in one 20-gram sachet alone. Imagine how much sugar you’re taking in if you drink an average of three cups of coffee a day. What About Sugar-Free Coffee? For health-conscious individuals, especial...

AgriEx; Farm To Table Fruits and Vegetables

Image
It has been more than a year since the government declared the quarantine due to the pandemic. Many Filipinos can feel the burden of buying fresh fruits and vegetables, and it somehow gave them the realization of the importance of agriculture in our lives. Some began backyard gardening, urban gardening, and many people started green living. But sometimes, others are not bound to grow food in their backyards let alone if you have restricted space in your homes. Some are successful in their attempts to hopefully grow their own vegetables, but it entails so much effort, research, and trial and error.  Image from AgriEx Facebook Page THE REALIZATION During the first few months into the quarantine, I remembered how our life was in the countryside. I grew up in the province, and my parents made sure we have everything we need in our yard. We have fruits and vegetables, and we wait for harvest time. I could still remember during summer how crazy it can get because of the abundance of mang...

#StrongerNow Than Yesterday: Inspiring Stories of Great Hair Days

Image
My mom would always tell me to look nice in the morning and that means fix my hair and wash my face. She would always say that our hair is our "crowning glory" because it can contribute to how we look. That is why whenever there are moments that I needed to feel good, I just take time to go to the salon or do home hair treatment however I like it. Great hair days can transform ordinary moments into moments of empowerment that some can only dare to dream of. Here are some great hair day stories from local stars that many Filipinas can relate to and use as their inspiration. Pinky Webb finally opens up on her recent iconic hair flip moment. “ Looking back as I faced a difficult situation, feeling the tension and pressure about to get to me, I chose to remain calm and unintentionally did, well, a hair flip. Luckily, I chose to wear my hair down that day. Even better, I felt empowered with my Salontastic hair!”     “No matter the length, style and colour of my hair Pantene shampo...

Summer Fun For Kids In The New Normal

Image
Can you feel the excruciating heat already? I don't want to state the obvious, but summer is here, and that means everyone else will be busy taking out their floaters and portable swimming pools at home. Many are planning a summer getaway during this time of year at nearby resorts and hotels. Due to the global pandemic, we are limited now to the comforts of our homes. But this pandemic should not hinder the small kids from having fun under the Sun in their home's amenities. THE NEW NORMAL Due to the quarantine that the government mandates, people have limited access to resorts and any recreational activities outside their homes. Some converted a portion of their home into a small pool where their kids can enjoy the water, while some still opt for the pack-away kind of pool. No one knows yet when hotels and resorts will be fully operational so that people could enjoy the beach during the summer. All we can do is stay at home and make do of what we can. THE CHALLENGE  How do kids...

2021; One Year After The Lockdown

Image
Exactly a year ago, almost everyone faced the battle of being locked down at home. Not everyone has the privilege to work in their home's comforts, let alone provide for their families' needs. The sadness and devastation were all over social media and sometimes can be more frustrating and loud if you continue to linger on it. But what can we do? It is a global pandemic that most of us are caught red-handed and restricted our movements. We faced the uncertainty of when this pandemic will end and how it will go for the next months after that. It was okay for some for the first few months, but then not all can cope with the situation, especially those whose jobs are in the corporate world wherein they need to close down their offices and declare bankruptcy. Many families were affected and had to shift to working from home to stay afloat in this situation we are all in right now. THE STRUGGLE This pandemic greatly affected us, that we had to close our primary source of income for n...
